Acupuncture For Flu (Influenza), Coughs & Colds In London
Acupuncture & Coughs, Colds, Flu
Acupuncture can help clear blocked sinuses, headaches, body aches, sore throats, coughs and help promote deeper breathing. Acupuncture helps deal with the virus by having a positive effect on the immune system and promoting homeostasis - a state where all the bodily organs are functioning optimally. Children are more prone to coughs and colds and respond quickly to acupressure and Acupuncture.
Acupuncture and cupping are dynamic treatments which help recovery from colds, coughs and flu (influenza), and viruses such as tonsillitis and laryngitis. Treatment should be sought as soon as possible after the initial symptoms are felt – e.g. a sore throat, sneezing and shivering, a high temperature, a headache, feeling knocked out like you have a cold coming on and so on. A dramatic improvement can be obtained in one or two sessions – as long as the cold is treated at the beginning. If we have been ill for longer it may take a few more acupuncture & cupping treatments to get better and rest. Dietary recommendations may also be given.
Different Perspective On Ill-health
This is a major difference between western and Chinese Medicine approach to treating a person with a cold or the flu – depending on the strength of your constitutional energy the same cold virus may manifest in a different way. For someone with a stronger defence system – the symptoms may be stronger but shorter-lived. Whereas for someone who is weaker, it may take a long time for the cold to manifest and then even longer for all the symptoms to disappear. In some cases this may lead to a state of ill-health when we are unable to fully get rid of the bacteria or virus so it remains in our body – causing a series of symptoms such as low energy, fatigue, generalised aches and pains. These sometimes may become chronic conditions, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME. (See also Acupuncture For Allergies & Hayfever)
Acupuncture For Boosting Our Constitution
If we are run down or old in our years, it is more likely that complications will occur following a simple cold or flu virus such as sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, trachetis & encephalitis, laryngitis, nasal polyps, otitis media, rheumatic fever, quinsy etc. In these cases Acupuncture can work as a complementary treatment to help boast the constitution of the individual and help to clear the residual phlegm and mucus.
